This is the story of my own 45 → 46 → 47 years of age. From a year of unexpected turns, quiet wins, and stepping into the next chapter.
Halfway through my 45th year, life turned in a direction I had neither anticipated nor prepared for. But life has a way of upsetting my plans only to replace them with better ones. I began my 46th year with a major career change and decided to use that shift as an opportunity to make meaningful lifestyle changes.
Here is what unfolded over the last year:
- Lost around 32 lbs and became noticeably healthier
- Biked approximately 4,400 miles
- Resting heart rate dropped from 58 to 52 bpm
- Cholesterol reached its lowest level in 13 years
- Pant size reduced from 34” to 32” (almost 31”)
- Cardio fitness moved into the above-average range
- Oura Ring showed my heart health is 11 years younger than my actual age
- Joined the Wonder of Words writing course
- Started writing again after a long pause
- Spent more intentional time with family and reconnected with people I had lost touch with
One of the most significant practices I began this year is Ichigyo Zanmai — single-pointed, unwavering focus. While the list above makes me proud, I also did some simple but meaningful things in recent months:
- Took Uber rides and, for the full 30 minutes, left my phone untouched while listening to an audiobook
- Completed four books so far this year
- Ate meals with full attention — no talking, no TV, no scrolling, no devices
- Enjoyed quiet time without a phone in y hand or pocket
- Deliberately “forgot” my phone so I could simply be with myself
- Reduced unnecessary distractions and started using my phone more intentionally
As I begin my 47th year today, here is what I’m aiming for:
- Health
- Reach and maintain 155 lbs.
- Surpass every previous year in overall health tracking
- Keep resting heart rate consistently between 48–52 bpm
- Improve cholesterol and other blood-work numbers further
- Move to a 30” pant size
- Writing & Expression
- Write more consistently — sharing thoughts, learnings, and experiences
- Maintain a regular rhythm of blog posts and reflections
- Focus & Growth
- Develop laser-sharp focus in everything I do – professional, personal, family – everything with unwavering focus.
- Engage more actively in professional networks
To celebrate the new me, did a new profile picture and headshot of at the beginning of my 47th year journey. Now, to celebrate my birthday and Subhashree’s birthday together we are off to Disneyland – The Happiest place on Earth. Mickey Mouse – here we come…
